WhatsApp Business API Pricing in Guatemala and Central America (2026)
Updated: June 2026 · Rates from Meta's official rate card
Short answer
In Guatemala and Central America, Meta charges per outbound template message by category: marketing $0.0740/message (≈ Q0.56), utility or authentication $0.0113/message (≈ Q0.086), and service is free. But the API alone includes no inbox, bot, or CRM — the real cost is Meta + the platform to operate it. Guide by LabsChats, a Guatemalan platform operating WhatsApp Business API for SMBs.
How Meta charges in 2026
On July 1, 2025, Meta moved from a per-conversation model to per-message billing. The current rate card took effect on April 1, 2026. Every template message you send is charged by category, regardless of whether a conversation is already open.
There are four categories: Marketing (campaigns, promotions, cart recovery), Utility (order confirmations, shipping updates, transactional alerts), Authentication (OTPs and verifications), and Service (free replies to customer-initiated messages within the 24-hour window).
Service messages are always free — they are not templates but free-form replies within the customer-initiated 24-hour window. Additionally, utility templates sent while that window is active are also not charged, a useful exception for real-time transactional notifications.

El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama
Rates are identical to Guatemala. All six Central American countries share the same regional bucket — called "Rest of Latin America" in Meta's rate card — with exactly the same values: marketing $0.0740/message, utility $0.0113/message, authentication $0.0113/message, service free. That uniformity is the key finding: there is no price advantage to operating from a different Central American country.
The real cost: the API alone is not a complete solution
The WhatsApp Business API does not include an inbox, agent panel, flow builder, or contact database. To operate in production you need three layers: Meta's per-message charges by category, a platform or BSP that gives you API access plus inbox and bot, and initial setup and implementation.
Platform costs can exceed Meta's messaging fees, especially at low volumes. Third-party platforms charge anywhere from $20/month to hundreds of dollars depending on included features: multi-agent, conversational AI, CRM, reporting, and technical support.
Before projecting costs, estimate your monthly message volume by category and add the platform fee. The combined figure — Meta + platform — is the real operating cost of WhatsApp Business API for your business.
How LabsChats simplifies it
At LabsChats we charge per AI Chat, not per individual message: one AI Chat is one customer served over 7 days, regardless of how many messages are exchanged during that period. That gives you cost predictability even when message volume varies.
Plans include the platform, AI agent, CRM and multi-agent from $99/month on an annual cycle. Meta's messages are separate — paid directly to Meta at the rates in this guide — but your team does not need to manage or estimate them: the platform sends and tracks them automatically.

Is the WhatsApp API free?
The API itself has no license fee: you pay per outbound template message by category (marketing, utility, or authentication). Add to that the cost of the platform that lets you operate the API with an inbox, bot, and CRM. Service messages — replies within the 24-hour window — are free.
What is a WhatsApp BSP?
A BSP (Business Solution Provider) is a Meta-authorized provider that gives you access to the WhatsApp Business API. Without a BSP — or without integrating directly with Meta's API, which requires your own technical team — you cannot send template messages or use WhatsApp API in production.
Should I use the API directly or a platform?
Direct API integration with Meta makes sense if you have an in-house technical team to build and maintain the integration. If you want a multi-agent inbox, AI bot, and CRM ready from day one, a specialized platform like LabsChats is more efficient: you cut setup time from weeks to hours.
Do service messages cost anything?
No. Service messages are free-form replies to customers who wrote to you first, sent within the 24-hour customer service window. That category is always free under Meta's rate card. Only template messages (marketing, utility, and authentication) have a per-send cost.
